SPAIN - Art Immersion week in Mallorca.

.

ABOUT OUR MALLORCA TOUR:

The island of Mallorca has always attracted painters, writers, poets, musicians and other artists. Some famous historical people who have chosen to make Mallorca their home include Frederic Chopin, Joan Miro, Robert Graves and of course current day tennis champion Rafael Nadal!

The island offers everything from large city living in the capital Palma to quaint village life in small towns like Deia, Fornalutx and Valldemossa.

Our base will be in the small town of Fornalutx, ideally located on the west coast of the island, within close reach to many of the idyllic villages where we will paint! Fornalutx calls itself the prettiest village in Spain and it is hard to disagree! It is a very charming little town that is situated in the middle of the Tramuntana mountain range, surrounded by orange groves, olive trees, and open terraces. The town - with its stunning views over the mountains and the valleys below -  has an almost magical quality to it!

This workshop will focus on simplifying the scene and creating enticing compositions en plein air. Principles of painting: composition, values, edges, color mixing, color temperature and achieving depth will be covered.

Working in the morning and afternoon light on at least 2 paintings a day will give you plenty of reference for future work back in your studio and lots of experience working on location. Emphasis will be on enjoying the whole experience and not getting too hung up on creating perfect paintings. Plein air will teach you that you have to work quick and capture the essence, not details. There simply isn’t enough time with changing light and conditions.
