SWEDEN - Watercolor Impressions of Sweden
This tour is for a private group.
ABOUT OUR TRIP TO SWEDEN:
We will cover all aspects of plein air watercolor painting, including choosing a subject, composition, value, colors, atmospheric perspective and technique. Each day will begin with discussion about plein air painting followed by a demonstration. While each student-artist works on a painting, we will provide personal attention and instruction about the painting process.
The workshop is open to all levels of painters from beginner to advanced.

The southernmost area of Sweden is Skåne, home to many painters, writers, poets, potters, glassblowers and other artists. The area has a rich, cultural heritage and you will find numerous galleries, art studios and workshops all over the region. One of the daughters of this region is the world-famous opera singer Birgit Nilsson. A wonderful museum has been dedicated to her life in her small home village of Svenstad.
The sea is omnipresent and is dotted by beautiful beaches on the Bay of Skälderviken, the Bay of Laholm and on the uninhabited island of Hallands Väderö, also one of the richest wildlife sanctuaries in Sweden. The region is an area of ancient settlements and some prehistoric relics on the peninsula witness that fact. The largest and most famous of these relics is Dagshög, the largest Bronze Age grave mound in Skåne.
At the north side of the peninsula runs the mountain ridge Hallandsåsen, which forms fascinating cliffs at the head of the peninsula, known as Hovs Hallar. On the way towards the head of the peninsula there is the award-winning park Norrvikens Trädgårdar, one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. The area offers almost unlimited opportunities for plein air painting excursions!
Lodging: Hotel Hjorten
The Hjorten hotel is situated in the town of Båstad, specifically in the area of Malen. The hotel is one of those places where you instantly feel at home. Several common areas where the guests can linger, have a cup of coffee or just relax in the atmosphere makes this 100 year old hotel warm and friendly.
The hotel is situated a short walk to the beach (100 meters) and to the beautiful promenade that runs along the sea.

Hovs Hallar Nature Preserve – a gorgeous spot on the steep coastal section overlooking the Kattegatt Sea, described as a magical, almost otherworldly place
The small fishing village of Torekov with its winding cobblestone streets, a beautiful church dated from 1860 and a picturesque marina with boats going to and from the neighboring islands

The Skottorp Castle, one of the best preserved Empire palaces in the country where you can feel the history of the kings and queens of Sweden – this is the place where King Carl the 11th married Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark in 1680!
Three of the days we will have lunch together. The other days everyone will pick their own lunch spot
