ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
Mediums: Oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pastel artists are all welcome to this workshop. Demonstrations will be in oil. The principles are the same as far as composition, values, edges, color temperature and achieving depth for all the mediums. Color mixing and technique with watercolor are different, but Cheryl will help students individually with any medium.
You will be met at Palma Airport, and we will travel to our hotel in Valldemossa. The first evening we will have a get-together where we go through the program of the week and you get a chance to meet our instructor, fellow artists, trip leader and staff.
During the week we will explore the island, its many scenic areas - from the gorgeous views over the Mediterranean Sea to the small quaint villages in the Tramuntana mountain range.
Some of the places we will visit are:
Fornalutx, one of the prettiest villages of Spain, with its cobbled streets and terracotta roofs, surrounded by well tended orange and lemon groves. The artist town of Deia, home to celebrities such as Michael Douglas, perched in a ravine at the foot of the Teix mountain, with views out to the Mediterranean below and with an interesting museum dedicated to the writer Robert Graves. Valldemossa, once a home for Frederic Chopin and George Sands, with art galleries, a 400 year old olive estate, outdoor cafes and restaurants. Soller, a charming town with an impressive cathedral, dating from the 1200s and a botanical garden with many endangered local plant species. Puerto de Soller, a fishing village that can be reached via a vintage train that travels on a wooden narrow-gauge electric railway, which crosses the Sierra de Alfàbia mountain range with a series of tunnels, bridges, viaducts and bends. Palma, once a laid-back capital, now a cosmopolitan city, with a bustling city center and a preserved old town.
When we are painting, we will focus on simplifying the scene and creating enticing compositions en plein air. We will explore the principles of painting: composition, values, edges, color mixing, color temperature and achieving depth. Working in the morning and afternoon on one or two paintings per day will give each student plenty of reference for future works in the studio and a lot of experience in the field.
We can't wait to show you this beautiful Spanish island in the Mediterranean with our paint boxes and canvases in hand!

ABOUT MALLORCA
The island of Mallorca has always attracted painters, writers, poets, musicians and other artists. Some famous historical people who have chosen to make Mallorca their home include Frederic Chopin, Joan Miro, Robert Graves and of course current day tennis champion Rafael Nadal!
The island offers everything from large city living in the capital Palma to quaint village life in small towns like Deia, Fornalutx and Valldemossa.
Our base will be in Valldemossa, one of the small, picturesque towns in the Tramuntana mountain range on the west coast of the island, in the middle of orange groves, olive trees, and open terraces.

Lodging: Hotel Es Petit
Es Petit Hotel is a small hotel with a perfect location in the center of Valldemossa. Coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries are located right outside the hotel.
The building has been totally renovated and has modern facilities and amenities.
The deck with magnificent views overlooking the valley will be our gathering point in the afternoons as we return from our daily painting excursions.
Rooms: All rooms have private bathrooms and air conditioning.
