A Sketchbook Journaling Workshop with Karen Ramsay

Come join us and capture Lake Como in watercolor! As we fill our art travel journals with sketching and watercolors, Karen will give us tips and tricks for improving this special skill. Sketching on location, while traveling, is an art form that you can take with you on every future trip. The daily sketches that you create will become a treasured visual diary of your travel.

Karen Ramsay

From an early age, Karen Ramsay has had a love for drawing and painting. She is a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver and has been featured in the Big Sky Journal as an "Artist of the West”. Other accolades include: Paint The Poudre: People's Choice Award, Wild About Colorado: Best of Show and the Colorado Watercolor Society: Member Show Award.

Our lodging: Hotel Bellagio

We are staying at the lovely Hotel Bellagio, located in the middle of the village, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel has panoramic views of the lake and a spa onsite. There is a large area for us to work on our art in the afternoons. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast and a very service minded staff!

About the area

Widely considered one of the prettiest areas of Europe, the Italian Lakes area was once a playground for nobility and royals, visible in the many palaces dotting the lake shores. We will be staying in the beautiful town of Bellagio, often called "the Pearl of Lake Como", situated by the foothills of the Swiss and Italian Alps.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP AND THE AREA:

During the week, this tour is designed to guide you to the finest spots along the shores of the picturesque Lake Como with its charming lakeside towns, its Renaissance architecture, Italian villas and terraced gardens. Daily, we will visit several of the beautiful villas and gardens along the shores of Lake Como; among them Villa Monastero, the famous Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, and Villa Balbianello in the small town of Lenno. We will spend a day in Varenna, one of the best preserved Medieval centers of the entire lake area, with its charming, steep cobblestone streets, porticos and historic churches. The Italian Lakes region has a mesmerizing, timeless beauty where we will find endless inspiration to design, generate and create art.
