Paint & Pedal in Languedoc

A Painting / Biking Workshop in the southwest of France

This truly unique workshop brings together painters and cyclists for an unforgettable week in Southwest France. Each day, you choose your own adventure: capture the breathtaking landscapes on canvas or explore the region on two wheels. Every outing bridges nature with culture, featuring historical stops, local fairs, and medieval villages. At the end of the day, both groups reunite at our home base: a converted 14th-century monastery in the historic village of Limoux.

Our lodging will be a converted 14th century monastery in the historic quarter of Limoux. Just steps from the town square, you can unwind by the courtyard fountain, relax under a vine-covered pergola, or find a quiet nook in the garden to recharge. The hotel has several common reading and relaxing areas and all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

We will be staying just outside Limoux, a charming town of about 10,000 people located a short distance from Carcassonne. Its historic center is a beautiful tapestry of ancient churches, stone bridges, and medieval architecture. The town is nestled in the "Haute Vallée"—a breathtaking, forested valley where the river Aude flows down from the rolling hills of the eastern Pyrénées.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP AND THE AREA:

This truly unique workshop brings together painters and cyclists for an unforgettable week in Southwest France. Each day, you choose your own adventure: capture the breathtaking landscapes on canvas or explore the region on two wheels.

For the artists, Lo Mathews will host daily plein air painting sessions throughout the semi-wild countryside of Languedoc-Roussillon. You will be surrounded by rolling hills, wildflowers, and dramatic views, with thousands of years of history—from Cathar castles to Roman bridges—serving as your muse.

For the cyclists, our host Chris will lead daily rides through an infinite network of quiet, paved country roads. The astonishing variety of terrain offers everything from gentle, flat valleys to challenging, steep climbs, all under Europe's best cycling weather. Rain rarely interrupts a ride here.

Every outing bridges nature with culture, featuring historical stops, local fairs, and medieval villages.

At the end of the day, both groups reunite at our home base: a converted 14th-century monastery in the historic quarter of Limoux.
