Painting Impressions of Stockholm

A Plein Air Watercolor Painting Workshop with Randy Hale

Join Randy Hale for an inspiring plein air painting workshop in the beautiful city of Stockholm. Drawing on years of experience leading painting groups in exotic locations around the world, Randy will help you develop the skills to truly see like an artist.

Together, we’ll explore various parts of Stockholm, capturing the character, light, and atmosphere of the city while learning to respond to the immediacy of our surroundings and paint in the moment.

Throughout the workshop, Randy will provide daily, constructive one-on-one feedback tailored to your individual goals and experience. His supportive instruction will help you gain confidence, strengthen your artistic vision, and continue your creative journey.

Randy Hale believes every composition should tell a story. Through bold contrasts of positive and negative shapes, he creates a sense of drama while leaving room for mystery and discovery. Rather than spelling everything out, Randy prefers to suggest and imply, allowing watercolor to do what it does best. As water carries pigments across shapes, colors mingle and flow together, creating luminous, unexpected results.

Randy has been taking groups to paint and receive instruction in plein air painting in exotic places all over the world. In this workshop he will teach us how to “see” with an artist’s eye. In various parts of the beautiful city of Stockholm, he will teach us how to handle the immediacy of our surroundings while painting “in the moment”.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP AND THE AREA:

Your Stockholm adventure begins at Arlanda Airport (ARN), where you’ll be met and accompanied to our centrally located hotel. Throughout the week, we will explore Stockholm through painting excursions that combine artistic instruction with the opportunity to experience this remarkable city.

We will visit Gamla Stan (Old Town), one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval city centers, and paint in its beautiful central square, Stortorget, surrounded by colorful historic buildings.

Another day, we will explore Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum. With traditional houses, historic homesteads, gardens, and beautifully preserved cultural settings, Skansen offers an abundance of inspiring subjects to paint.

Discover Stockholm’s Archipelago: No visit to Stockholm would be complete without experiencing its spectacular archipelago. We will take a ferry to one of the surrounding islands, where we will spend time painting and discovering the unique character of this island landscape.

From historic streets and royal gardens to islands, waterways, and vibrant city scenes, Stockholm offers an extraordinary variety of subjects—and a wonderful backdrop for a week of painting, exploration, and artistic discovery.
